This is a 11 month (207 day) contract position.

 

ROLE AND PURPOSE:

The Dyslexia Coordinator provides leadership in the design, revision and implementation of educational outcomes for all students who are identified with Dyslexia and related disorders by providing support to students, parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators in the identification, evaluation and development of appropriate services. The Dyslexia Coordinator will collaborate with stakeholders through the 504 committee or the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committee process designed to support students who are either in need of interventions or specially designed instruction because of identification of Dyslexia and related disorders.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

            Education/Certification:

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • Professional Mid-management or Supervisor Certification issued by the Texas Education Agency
  • Valid Texas teacher’s certificate

 

            Experience:

  • 3-5 years successful teaching experience in the area of Dyslexia, reading or special education
  • Experience in both general education and special education settings preferred
  • Training and/or certification in instructional strategies which utilize individualized, intensive, multisensory, phonetic methods and a variety of writing and spelling components           

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge in development and implementation of lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district adopted program for Dyslexia
  • Knowledge of accommodations for differences in learning styles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of reading strategies and differentiated instruction
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Dyslexia and dyslexia procedures
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local and district laws, policies and procedures related to Dyslexia and related disorders

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  

  1. INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
  1. Facilitates the planning, evaluation and delivery of the district’s adopted Dyslexia program for grades K-12.
  2. Provides training and mentoring support to campus Dyslexia teachers.
  3. Implements and monitors the screening and referral process for Dyslexia services.
  4. Conducts screening, assessments and assists campus staff in developing intervention plans for students.
  5. Assumes responsibility for coordinating the Dyslexia program throughout the district.
  6. Maintains records and operating guidelines or policies that maintain compliance and promote effective interventions.
  7. Effectively communicates state and district Dyslexia policy and guidelines to teachers and staff.
  8. Coordinates support activities for the Dyslexia program.

 

  1. SCHOOL ORGANIZATION/ CLIMATE
  2. Communicates effectively with students, staff, parents, and community.
  3. Works with district and campus staff members for effective implementation of the Dyslexia program.
  4. Consults with and assists campus 504 and ARD committees, Dyslexia Teachers, Response to Intervention (RTI) teams, school nurses, regular class teachers, counselors, administrators, and parents to meet the educational needs of students with Dyslexia and related disorders.
  5. Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

 

  1. SCHOOL ORGANIZATION/ IMPROVEMENT
  2. Works collaboratively with others in developing the district’s mission, district goals and articulating a vision for the district’s Dyslexia program.
  3. Monitors Dyslexia program on all campuses.
  4. Provides opportunities for staff development for the administrative staff and teachers.
  5. Researches programs and provides analysis of such programs to determine possible implementation in the district.

 

  1. PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT
  2. Works with the Director of Special Education and campus administrators to develop and provide Dyslexia professional development programs.
  3. Works directly with the special education and curriculum departments to ensure that all dyslexic students are served.

 

  1. ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
  2. Consults with the Director of Special Education to define the program and fiscal needs in the budget development process to ensure that fiscal resources address the mission of the district.
  3. Demonstrates responsible fiscal spending over assigned program budgets.
  4. Works to keep district campuses in compliance with state law and Texas Education Agency standards.
  5. Provides care and protection of district property and account for all equipment issued.
  6. Orders materials necessary for effective implementation of the Dyslexia program.
  7. Assists with developing and maintaining operational guidelines for Dyslexia program and personnel.

 

  1. STUDENT MANAGEMENT
  2. Supports district and campus rules for conduct.
  3. Encourages plans for improved student behavior that reflects enhanced opportunities for learning.
  4. Coordinates the referral, identification and delivery of dyslexia services to the appropriate students

 

  1. SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
  2. Articulates the district’s mission and goals and conduct activities as needed to provide parent information, training and communication regarding dyslexia services.
  3. Encourages two-way communication between the district and the community.
  4. Encourages and promotes parental and community involvement in the educational process.
  5. Projects a positive image to the community.

 

  1. PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
  2. Remains current in all legal requirements for Dyslexia services and procedures.
  3. Coordinates development and distribution of parent information and training about dyslexia.

 

  1. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  2. Assists in recruitment, recommendation, assignment and supervision of dyslexia personnel.
  3. Works with campus administration to address non-compliance on the part of employees.
  4. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating guidelines and policy and procedures.
  5. Ability to speak effectively before groups of constituents or employees of organization.

 

  1. MISCELLANEOUS
  2. Demonstrate a willingness to examine practice and implement change, as appropriate.
  3. Use current technology for instruction and management purposes.
  4. Perform other duties and functions as assigned by the director.
