Primary Purpose

To enable each child to pursue his/her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular employee

 

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • 15 hours’ college or waiver letter with detailed information on previous work with children in an educational environment (copy of transcript reflecting a minimum of 15 hours is required).
  • Completed online application
  • Completed New Hire and Substitute documents (link is in the left column on the Careers tab page)
  • Copy of required 1-9 documentation (See allowable list of documentation on I-9 from under New Substitute Documentation link on Careers webpage)
  • Certified teachers must provide a copy of their certification
  • Attend mandatory Substitute Orientation (Call 972-923-4631 for next available date/time)

 

Special Knowledge & Skills

  • Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students
  • Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
  • Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise self-control when dealing with students

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  • Follows the teacher’s written lesson plans.  Consults with the principal and/or staff to resolve questions and/or concerns
  • Compiles with all building procedures and schedules.  Promotes the proper use and care of school property
  • Teaches scheduled classes.  Prepares a written summary of work completed.  Makes the absent teacher
  • Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures
  • Implements effective pupil management procedures.  Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code
  • Works cooperatively with other teachers
  • Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time
  • Respects personal privacy.  Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information
  • Maintains acceptable attendance record and its punctual
  • Performs other specific job-related duties as directed
  • Ability to effectively function on the Frontline substitute system
