Primary Purpose
To enable each child to pursue his/her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular employee
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- 15 hours of college credit or waiver letter with detailed information on previous work with children in an educational environment. A copy of a transcript reflecting a minimum of 15 hours is required.
- Completed online application
- Completed New Hire and Substitute documents
- Copy of required I-9 documentation (See the list of allowable documentation on I-9 from under the New Substitute Documentation link on the Careers webpage)
- Certified teachers must provide a copy of their certification
- Attend mandatory Substitute Orientation (Call 972-923-4631 for the next available date/time)
Special Knowledge & Skills
- Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students
- Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
- Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to exercise self-control when dealing with students
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Follows the teacher’s written lesson plans. Consults with the principal and/or staff to resolve questions and/or concerns
- Complies with all building procedures and schedules. Promotes the proper use and care of school property
- Teaches scheduled classes. Prepares a written summary of work completed.
- Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures
- Implements effective pupil management procedures. Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code
- Works cooperatively with other teachers
- Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time
- Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information
- Maintains acceptable attendance record and is punctual
- Performs other specific job-related duties as directed
- Ability to effectively function on the Frontline substitute system
